The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security has introduced a new service for the purpose of issuing entry permits to the Emirates.

This service is related to residents who have been living outside the United Arab Emirates for more than six months.

What is the new service?

The new service is called "Request a permit for those staying outside the country for more than six months - a new application," and it enables residents to activate their residency status. Once more, and after receiving permission from the authorities, By entering the country.

For its part, the printing offices that are accredited to "identity and nationality" have been activating the permit application since Friday, January 27, 2023. This application covers all types of stays in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Individuals who hold a state residence permit and have been away from the country for more than six months are eligible to apply for a permit, and if they are approved, they will be able to re-enter the country with the same residence that was revoked because they were away for more than six months.

Prerequisites for approval

A copy of the Emirates ID and a copy of the passport are required to be submitted in order to obtain an entry permit for individuals who have been absent from the country for a period of more than six months. Additionally, the reason for the delay in entering the country during that time period must be attached. It is important to note that this service is only available to customers who have been away from the country for a period of six months.

In order to avoid having his residency visa revoked, the federal authority in charge of identity, citizenship, Customs, and Port Security has certified that the sponsored individual must not remain outside the United Arab Emirates for more than six months under any circumstances.

Exceptions that are specific

Domestic workers who accompany a student studying or a person being treated abroad, as well as domestic workers who accompany members of diplomatic and consular missions representing the UAE abroad and employees of these missions who hold a residence visa in the UAE, are among the exceptions that have been identified by the authority. These exceptions allow a resident expatriate to stay outside the United Arab Emirates for more than six months while still maintaining the validity of his residence visa in the country. In this particular scenario, a medical report must be submitted and approved by the Ministry of Health and prevention or other authorized health authorities.

There are also exceptions for employees of the public sector who are sent by the authority to attend training or specialized courses, employees working in the offices of employers abroad and their families who hold valid residence visas in the UAE, and students who are residents of the United Arab Emirates and who travel outside of the country to attend a university (in accordance with the provisions of the General Directorate of residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai).
