Dubai announces 2-day extension of "Remote learning"

The government has decided to enforce distance learning measures across Dubai for the remainder of the week to ensure the safety and security of all educational institutions and their surroundings.

The government has extended the period of online classes through Thursday and Friday, thereby suspending any on-site classes in the emirate during this time frame. This directive, announced by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) on Wednesday, applies to all private schools, nurseries, and universities in Dubai.

This decision mirrors a similar directive issued by the Emirates School Education Foundation, which encompasses government schools nationwide. The primary objective behind this initiative is to ensure that all educational facilities, both private and government-run, along with their adjacent areas, are adequately prepared in terms of safety and security protocols before reverting to regular face-to-face classes for students and teaching staff.

Earlier, all government schools received instructions to switch to distance learning due to adverse weather conditions. This directive was implemented for Tuesday, April 16, and Wednesday, April 17. Similarly, in Sharjah, private schools have been instructed to continue distance learning until the end of the current four-day week. Following two days of online classes, students will persist with remote learning on Thursday, April 18, as a precautionary measure endorsed by local government authorities to safeguard students' well-being.

The recent unprecedented rainfall, described as the heaviest in 75 years, has brought life to a standstill in the country. In light of these exceptional circumstances, schools across the UAE have been directed to conduct online learning until Wednesday, April 17. While authorities in other emirates are yet to make decisions regarding the extension of online classes, the overarching priority remains the safety and security of students, educators, and the wider community during this challenging period.
