Canada decides to impose new visa restrictions and restrictions on foreign workers

Ahmed Moawad - | World

The number of foreign students and workers who are relocating to Canada in order to attend educational institutions in the rich nation has seen a substantial growth in recent years. This trend has been seen in recent years. Students who have dreams of attending some of the most prominent educational institutions in the world sometimes daydream about studying in Canada on a student visa. This is a regular occurrence among students who have lofty educational goals. With that being said, acquiring a student visa in Canada is not a simple task. As a consequence of participating in additional academic activities

The cost of living in Canada is high

Especially in major cities like Toronto and Vancouver, the cost of living in Canada is relatively high. This is especially true throughout the country. Additionally, the cost of tuition for international students is significantly higher than that of native students.

In the academic year 2020-2021, the average tuition charge for international students was $32,019, while the average tuition fee for local students was $6,610. This information comes from Statistics Canada. In addition, potential applicants for student visas are required to give evidence that they have sufficient cash to cover their expenses for the first year of their studies.

Raising cost of living requirements for students in Canada

Applicants for study permits will be required to meet a cost of living criterion of twenty thousand six hundred and thirty dollars beginning January 1, 2024. This amount is equivalent to seventy-five percent of the Low Income Limit (LICO).

A student visa does not ensure that a person will be able to live permanently in Canada. Students are only permitted to work and study for a predetermined amount of time, which is determined by the study programme they are enrolled in and their eligibility. Students are required to submit an application for a new visa or depart the country once they have completed their education.

Direct work permit in Canada

A direct work permit is a class of visa that enables a foreign citizen to work in Canada for a particular company, occupation, and location. This type of visa is also known as a work permit. In order for an employer to be eligible for a direct work permit, they are required to collect a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

This information comes from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). A labour market impact assessment (LMIA) is a document that says that a foreign worker is required to fill the position and that there is no worker or permanent resident in Canada who is available to perform the job. In addition to meeting certain standards, such as publicising the job, offering the prevailing salary, and creating a transition plan, the employer is required to pay a fee for each and every Long-Term Management Initiative application.

The length of time it takes to process an LMIA can change based on the flow, the sector, and the geography. The average amount of time it took to process an LMIA application in 2021 was 55 business days, as reported by ESDC. Following the receipt of a positive LMIA, the worker is required to submit an application to the IRCC for a work visa.

In addition, the amount of time it takes to complete a work permit can change depending on the country of origin, the type of application, and the number of applications received. In 2021, the average amount of time required to process a work permit was twelve weeks, as reported by the IRCC. Depending on the length of time that the LMIA is valid and the validity of the passport, a direct work permit may be valid for up to four years maximum.

Education in Canada for immigrants and refugees

The Canadian government provides free education to immigrants and refugees, whether children or youth, as the Canadian Constitution guarantees free education from the ages of 5 to 18 years, including permanent residents, work permit holders, study permit holders, and immigrants in Canada.

If you are a permanent resident of Canada, you do not need to provide any additional documents for your child, but for temporary residents and holders of study and work permits in Canada, they must provide local schools with certain documents to ensure their children’s eligibility for free education in public schools.

Career choices available in Canada upon graduation

Students who have successfully finished their studies are eligible to apply for Post-Graduate Work Programs (PGWP), which are offered by the Government of Canada. Additionally, the Government of Canada provides outstanding career possibilities for international graduate students who are studying in Canada.

Through this program, overseas students are granted the opportunity to work in Canada for a period of up to three years following the completion of their university studies.

In addition to the potential of applying for immigration programs, graduate students have the opportunity to look for permanent employment possibilities. However, in order to be eligible for these chances, they must first demonstrate that they have the necessary skills and experience for the position for which they are seeking.

Work visa to Canada

Immigration Canada sets specific requirements that a foreign person must meet, under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program or the International Mobility Program. There are two types of work permits in Canada:

  • Open work permits, which allow him to work for any employer in Canada except for employers listed as ineligible on the list of employers who have failed to comply with the conditions, or who provide strip shows, erotic dancing, escort services, or erotic massage on an ongoing basis.
  • Work permits for employers

It should be noted that Canadian Immigration Minister Mark Miller had previously confirmed that Canada plans to reduce the number of temporary residents to 5% of the population, down from the current rate of 6.2%.

The minister also referred to reviewing immigration targets due to affordability and the housing crisis, and through this step the Canadian government aims to ensure “sustainable” growth in the number of temporary residents coming to Canada.

Conditions for study permits in Canada

There are many conditions that international students in Canada must include in order to obtain a study permit in Canada, starting from the work permit, to travel possibilities and the start and end dates of the permit, according to the following conditions:

1- Register in a Canadian designated educational institution (DLI).

2- Show active pursuit of study.

3- Notify the Canadian government any time a student changes post-secondary schools.

4- Termination of study if he no longer meets the conditions of being a student.

5- Determine the student’s specific academic level.

6- Whether the student is allowed to work on or off campus.

7- Whether the student needs to report medical procedures.

8- Whether the student can travel within Canada.

9- The date on which the student must stop studying.
