UAE Date Prices Slashed by 40% Ahead of Ramadan Demand

Dates, which are vital while fasting, are now available at a price that is approximately 40% off, and there are only a few days left until the holy month of Ramadan begins.

Demand for popular date varieties like Majdool and Rutab is gradually increasing as the holy month of Ramadan approaches. Close to Ramadan's onset, dates, crucial for fasting, are now available at nearly a 40 percent discount, a notable markdown observed at markets like the Waterfront Market and Jubail Market in Sharjah.

Prices of Majdool dates from Palestine, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia have dipped to Dh20 per kg from the previous Dh30 per kg, while Rutab, usually priced at Dh60 per 3kg, now costs Dh45 for the same quantity. Ajwa dates, highly favored during Ramadan, have also seen a reduction to Dh35 per kg from Dh45. For those on a budget, Zaidi dates from Iran are the most economical at Dh5.

Mohammed Raees, a date vendor at stall 130 in the Waterfront Market, noted a current decrease in demand for Majdool dates, with sales projected to escalate from over 100 kilograms to more than 500 kilograms daily next week. He highlighted that all date vendors are currently offering discounted prices, which residents are keenly taking advantage of.

Residents are urged to seize the timely opportunity to stock up on dates before Ramadan commences, as vendors expect a 20 percent price increase as demand surges during the holy month. Anzil S, another vendor at the Waterfront Market, mentioned an expanding variety of dates from various parts of the world expected in the coming weeks.

Dates hold a significant role in Ramadan, forming an integral part of the iftar ritual. Muslims traditionally break their fast with dates and water, following the example set by Prophet Muhammad. These sweet and nutritious fruits provide a rapid energy boost after a day of fasting, aiding in replenishing blood sugar levels.
