UAE Achieves 40-70% Travel Time Reduction on Key Dubai Roads

The Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Roads Improvement Project, at 75 percent completion, promises significant enhancements to Dubai's transportation infrastructure.

This initiative, spearheaded by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), aims to streamline traffic flow and reduce commute times for commuters traveling from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, particularly towards Al Qusais and Deira.

Upon its completion, the project is expected to slash peak-hour travel times by 40 percent, reducing the journey from 20 minutes to just 12 minutes. Additionally, for traffic heading from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Street towards Jebel Ali Port, travel times are projected to decrease by 70 percent, from 21 minutes to seven minutes.

The project entails the construction of four bridges spanning a total of 2,874 meters, with the capacity to accommodate 17,600 vehicles per hour. These bridges are strategically designed to facilitate smooth traffic flow between key roadways such as Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, First Al Khail Road, and Al Asayel Street.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, highlighted the progress made on the project, emphasizing its significance in upgrading Garn Al Sabkha Street—a vital link between major thoroughfares. The completion of foundation and column construction for the bridges marks a significant milestone, with focus now shifting to casting bridge walls, installing iron supports, expanding roads, and implementing lighting and drainage networks.

The project also encompasses extensive road works covering a distance of 7 kilometers, along with enhancements to surface intersections, street lighting, traffic signage, and rainwater drainage systems. Notably, this initiative aligns with RTA's broader Master Plan to enhance strategic road networks and arterial routes, further bolstering Dubai's infrastructure to accommodate urban growth and population expansion.

Undertaken in response to directives from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, the project reflects the leadership's commitment to advancing Dubai's infrastructure in line with its ongoing development objectives. With ongoing progress and meticulous planning, the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Roads Improvement Project aims to enhance connectivity and efficiency in Dubai's transportation network.
