Sheikh Mohammed announces issuing Decree regulating farms in Dubai

Asma Ahmed - | UAE

Dubai's Farm Decree, recently issued by Sheikh Mohammed, aligns with the city's food security strategy and its dedication to upholding the highest standards of public health and safety.

The comprehensive decree targets various aspects, including environmental aesthetics, preventing unplanned farms, and promoting the well-being of the emirate's livestock.

Key Areas of Focus:

With a few notable exclusions, such as camel horse racing and winter camps, the Decree's restrictions apply expressly to farms allotted to people in Dubai. According to the CEO's proposal, the Dubai Ruler has the power to classify these things.

Restrictions and Oversight:

Individuals are prohibited from establishing farms or installing fences on non-owned land in Dubai. The Office of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for Procurement and Finance, in coordination with Dubai Municipality, oversees and controls farm affairs, ensuring compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities and Approval Process:

The Ruler's Office and Dubai Municipality work together to grant approval for certain regions and monitor the health of animals. In order to make judgements about farm allocations, important authorities will organise a permanent body called the Farm Affairs Regulatory Body.

Regulations and Penalties:

Fines for infractions of the decree's stringent beneficiary rules range from one thousand to one hundred and twenty thousand UAE dirhams. Penalties can be doubled for offences committed within the same year. Within three months after the decree takes effect, existing beneficiaries are required to conform to its conditions.

Implementation and Legal Standing:

To guarantee efficient execution, a committee will be established, with the head of the Rural Areas Department serving as chairperson. In the event that beneficiaries do not comply within the specified time, fines will be imposed. If the need arises, the CEO of the Ruler's Office can extend this term. The publication in the Official Gazette marks the effective date of the Decree, which replaces any conflicting law.

This legislative framework reinforces Dubai's commitment to sustainable farming practices, environmental preservation, and the well-being of its citizens.
