Toyota Recalls 1 Million Vehicles Due to Airbag Sensor Issues

In the United States, Toyota is recalling around one million automobiles and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) owing to a potential issue that might result in the passenger airbag failing to deploy in the event of a collision.

The Toyota Camry, the Toyota Rav4, the Toyota Sienna, and the Lexus RX350 and ES350 are among the fifteen distinct Toyota and Lexus vehicles that are now being recalled for the 2020 and 2021 model years. Lexus is the luxury automobile brand owned by Toyota.

It is possible that the sensor that is part of the Occupant Classification System and that determines whether or not someone is seated in the front passenger seat might experience a short circuit. It was discovered that the sensor on some of these vehicles had been produced incorrectly.

An approximate estimate of a person's weight may be obtained from the OCS sensor, which can provide an indicator of whether a passenger in the front seat is an adult or a youngster. Because the force of the airbag might potentially damage someone of such a tiny size, the airbag may not activate in the event of a collision if it is discovered that a youngster is seated in the front passenger seat.

As stated in the statement made by Toyota, a short circuit in the OCS sensor might result in the airbag not being deployed in the event of an accident when it should have been deployed. A spokeswoman for Toyota declined to comment on whether or not the firm is aware of any injuries that have occurred as a result of this issue.

Toyota has stated that they would send notifications to the owners of cars that are included in the recall by the middle of February in the year 2024 by the company. It is going to be requested of the owners that they bring their vehicles to a Toyota or Lexus dealership, where the service staff will examine the sensor and repair it at no additional cost to the owner.
