The paramilitary force known as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of Sudan took control of the Khartoum airport and the Presidential palace on Saturday.
Due to the confrontation between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Dubai's Emirates has temporarily cancelled flights to and from Sudan as of Saturday.
Cancellation of flights to Khartoum airport
"Due to a worsening situation of civil unrest in Khartoum, all Emirates flights to/from Khartoum (EK733/EK734) are cancelled from April 15 to 17," a spokeswoman for Emirates said in a statement to Arabian Business. "The reason for this is because the situation in Khartoum is deteriorating."
"Passengers connecting through Khartoum on these flights will not be accepted for travel at their point of origin."
In addition, the airline stated that passengers who were affected should get in touch with their particular travel agents or the Emirates Call Centre to discuss rebooking possibilities. Emirates expresses its regret for any difficulties this may have caused. "We are continuing to keep a close eye on the developing situation," the official stated.
According to the reports, the RSF was successful in seizing control of both the airport and the presidential palace in Khartoum on Saturday.
The UAE has issued a request for the crisis to be resolved through discussion
According to a statement published by the state news agency WAM, the United Arab Emirates has issued a statement in response to the ongoing civil unrest in Sudan urging all relevant parties to exhibit caution, de-escalate the situation, and strive towards finding a peaceful resolution to this crisis through dialogue.
The United Arab Emirates Embassy in Khartoum is monitoring the developments in Sudan with great concern. The UAE has restated its position on the necessity of de-escalation and working towards finding a peaceful solution to the situation between the involved parties, according to the statement released by the UAE Embassy in Khartoum.
In addition to this, the embassy makes a point to emphasise the "importance of efforts aimed at supporting the political process and achieving national consensus towards the formation of a government."
